METABAUHAUS VENICE

Within the context of the Bauhaus of the Seas Sails project, students enrolled in the Master’s program in Digital and Public Humanities at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice have collaboratively designed and developed this website dedicated to the Santa Marta neighborhood. Situated in the heart of the city of Venice, Santa Marta is often overlooked and remains one of the lesser-known areas, making it a focal point for exploration and discovery through this digital platform.

What about Santa Marta?

Located in the southwestern part of the sestiere of Dorsoduro, the neighborhood of Santa Marta is characterized by its interesting course through time. A path that is closely linked both to the sea, as a natural and productive environment, and to the modern history of the most serene city.

With the ultimate goal of highlighting the historic value of this specific quarter, as well as the interesting stories of its inhabitants, the website aims to give an overview of Santa Marta’s calli and campi.

The meta elements

The project unfolds across the following thematic subdivisions: Residential Buildings, Fishermen, Church System, Traditional Public Spaces, Educational System, Gathering Water and Port Area. These subdivisions are not only thematic but also interconnected, emphasizing the significance of their relationship in the historic, economic and spacial evolution of Santa Marta. Employing the concept of “meta-elements” as our project’s guiding framework, our team aims to express and highlight the inherent connections and cohesion within these diverse aspects of Santa Marta’s cultural and historical fabric.
